NUMERICAL STUDY ON PROPULSIVE FACTORS IN REGULAR HEAD AND OBLIQUE WAVES

This paper applies Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) method to study propulsion performance in head and oblique waves. Finite volume (FVM) is employed discretize the governing equations SST k-ω model used for modeling turbulent flow. The free surface solved by of fluid (VOF) method. Sliding mesh technique enable rotation propeller. Propeller open water curves are determined propeller simulations. Calm resistance wave added resistances obtained from towing computations without Self-propulsion simulations calm waves with varying loads performed obtain self-propulsion point thrust identify use predict propulsive factors. Regular wavelengths 0.6 1.4 times length ship incident directions 0° 360° considered. influence on factors, including deduction wake fraction, water, relative rotative, hull efficiencies discussed.
